Philadelphia Business Journal’s as excited as we are about WBC’s grand opening April 1st.

This is not a drill: Wissahickon Brewing Company is opening on Schoolhouse Lane on Saturday April 1st (2pm – 10pm). To Philadelphia Business Journal, we’re making history.

“The East Falls section of Philadelphia hasn’t had a brewery since landmark Hohenadal Brewery shuttered in the 1950s,” reporter Kenneth Hilario wrote yesterday. He quoted Gina Snyder — who really went to bat for WBC’s zoning variances, btw — as confident that this new business will have a positive impact on other East Falls’ business climate.

“I am also really supportive of the business as a family-owned brewery,” Gina said, “It is great to have a brewery back in town, especially a family-run one.”

If you’ve had a chance to enjoy WBC’s beer at one of their Open Houses, then you can appreciate all the buzz. Tim & fam’s beer is really good! And their tasting room on Schoolhouse has such a great vibe — a warm open space with lots of cozy sitting areas. In nice weather, they’re gonna open the big industrial doors and have a mini beer garden.

Kid & dog friendly, to boot. So now, literally, the whole family can come out for a perfectly civilized afternoon/evening with delicious craft beer brewed on the spot. How European!

FUN FACT: Generations before WBC set up their 5,000-square-foot, 15-barrel operation, Guckes Brewery was making local beer enjoyed by Fallsers as far back as the 1850’s. Welcome back to a long-lost art we are excited to see revived in our neighborhood! See you April 1st.
